I would be delighted to welcome and share this passion with you, to inspire you with all that the Region has to offer and provide you with an unforgettable Northern Denmark experience.
As a member of Aalborg Guide Association and an official Cruise Guide for Visit Aalborg, I have several years experience of hosting and guiding visitors and guests. Rest assured, you're in good hands, I'm at your service to ensure the success of your visit with an 'off-the-shelf' or 'custom-designed':
- car panoramic, or
- coach tour, as well as a
- 'meet & greet' transfer service from hotel, airport, railway or bus station.
Whatever your choice, I'd be delighted to open the doors to the region for you to feel, taste, see and smell the wonders that are its very heart.
I specialise in small group tours but I'm equally happy with larger groups. Naturally, larger groups require a little extra time due to the numbers involved and can, on occasions, prove difficult to visit some places. But, speaking with you will enable me to point out problematic situations and suggest possible solutions. So, let's get together to blend your tour wishes with my local knowledge, that way we can find your perfect solution. Call or email, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Why Denmark and what's there to see?
Denmark, voted by the UN as the happiest country in the world to live, awaits you. In particular, welcome to North Jutland and to its capital city, Aalborg, voted the happiest city in the European Union. But, don't believe me, come and see for yourself, feel the warmth and cosiness as soon as you step into this wonderful part of the world.
The Region of North Jutland:
The most northerly region of Denmark surrounded by the famous Kattegat and Skagerrak Seas. It is the sunshine capital of Denmark with 150 km (95 m) of white sandy beaches on its rugged west coast of high cliffs and big waves (cold Hawaii - Denmark's surfing capital is here). The east coast is quieter with safe, gently shelving beaches and the child friendly waters of the Kattegat Sea.
The main feature of this part of Denmark is sand, the very feature that makes it so special. From Viking times deforestation produced the instability that has created many of the wonders of this region. This is especially so at Grenen, the very top of Denmark or at Råbjerg Mile where you will find Denmark's Sahara Desert. But sand is only one aspect, there are countless other attractions including: Skagan Art Gallery, home to the famous Skagan Artists' paintings, fascinating castles and manors, wonderful museums, Second World War German fortifications & museums, and for children there's Faarup Sommerland - a playground with everything.
The City of Aalborg:
With roots going back to the year 692, Aalborg has over 1300 years of history behind it. Having established itself in the world, the city offers visitors unique experiences from pre-Viking times, through to its eminence as one of today's modern cities.
Straddling the Limfjord at its narrowest, Aalborg became a very important Viking market and trading port. Today, that history is still evident in the city's make-up, a vibrant, shopping city, with a rich restaurant and café culture. Formerly Denmark's industrial heartland, today, having undergone a huge transformation, Aalborg is a city of innovation and education. You are most welcome to Denmark's forth-largest city; whatever your interest, Aalborg has something to offer you: history, architecture, art, design, culture, sport or leisure.
Whatever your wish, my aim is to help make your visit a golden memory, to whet your appetite by providing you with some ideas for inspiration to help you plan your visit. Remember, we meet at a time and place most suitable for you, for example: your hotel, a city centre location or at a site of interest. You decide and I'll meet you; if you're unsure, let's discuss it to find your perfect solution.
Welcome - Mike
A Recent Review of this guide
Our trip to visit the area and churches where my paternal grandmother, great grandparents, and great great grandparents were born, baptized, christened, married, and in some cases died was outstanding. A key to this was the preparation, knowledge and great attitude of our guide Michael. He did an excellent job communicating, and was extremely helpful and accommodating in making sure we had the best experience possible. Thanks Michael for an unforgettable day that couldn't have been better.
