Prehistory to maritime past, a true insight of authentic Maltese Culture.
The 3 Cities is a collective description of 3 fortified cities, Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua "cradle of Maltese history" that have provided a home and fortress to almost all who settled on the island. When the Emperor Charles V donated Malta to the Knights, they were quick to recognize the potential of the area thus this became their first seat in Malta. This tour offers an intriguing insight into Malta and its history as well as superb views across Valletta.
The most colourful and picturesque harbour in the south of Malta is Marsaxlokk. What enchants the eye are the fishing boats beautifully painted with moulded eyes, another link to Malta's past.
The Hagar Qim Temples were dedicated to the worship of Great Mother Earth, the fertility Goddess who was the dominant religious figure throughout the Mediterranean basin. These temples continue to astonish with their grandeur, complexity and beauty of the sites. Discover an extraordinary prehistoric culture in the heart of the Mediterranean.
We will meet as agreed and drive straight toward the 3 Cities being one of the oldest and most typical areas in Malta.
We will make our way to Senglea to the Gardiola, a stone vedette from where one dominates over Malta's Grand Harbour with stunning views across Valletta.
In Vittoriosa, we will stroll along the medieval narrow and winding streets of the town, past the most important building and Auberges of the Knights making you feel as though you stepped back in time. This is the place where one can absorb some of the local atmosphere.
We will proceed to Marsaxlokk, our main fisherman harbour characterized by the Luzzus the traditional fishing boats. Some free time to get a drink and enjoy this lovely spot.
Next we head to the southwest of the island on the outskirts of the rural village of Qrendi where we find the most prominent prehistoric site on the island , Hagar Qim. These megalithic temples, designated UNESCO world heritage sites are amongst the oldest free standing stone structures known to men.
