3 hours exploring Montevideo's highlights in a private tour, spending time by your own
A big, natural port with a friendly, small town feel, Montevideo is one of South Anerica's hidden gems. The historic heart of Uruguay's capital is a mixture of the 19th and 20th ocenturies colonial, Italian and French architecture as well as the downtown commercial district, art deco and neoclassical buildings in contrast with the shopping malls and modern high rising beach districts, such as Punta Carretas and Pocitos which bear more resemblance to Miami or Copacabana.
Sports, theater, music, carnival and the arts in general are alive in this fascinating seaside city. Enjoy the coastline with its magnificent waterfront avenue called Rambla.
¡Montevideo is your home, make it a memorable experience!
If you are cruisers, after leaving the cruise, walk along a green path about 200 yards to the Port exit blue iron bar door. It's behind some trees next to the Tourism Ministry. I'll be next to this exit holding a sign with your name. If you don't find me, please give me a personal call.
Old City: Matriz or Constitution Square, Spanish colonial sites, Cathedral and Town Hall "Cabildo", Sarandi main Street, Citadel Gate (Montevideo was a fortress then)
New City: Independence Square: Solis Opera House, Salvo Palace, Executive Tower and other interesting buildings
Parliament, 18 de Julio main downtown avenue
Mercosur Building, Rodó park and quarry, Golf Club facing the river, Pocitos and Punta Carretas residential neighborhoods and beaches

Michelle was the perfect guide for us, so easy to correspond with and arrange what we had in mind in advance of the tour, perfectly described where to meet her, was there waiting for us and gave us such a wonderful visit to Montevideo. She is so knowledgeable and gave us so much information in such an interesting way. We saw far more of the area and gained so much more than if we had made the tour on our own. Michelle is a very cheerful person to be with too, we all totally enjoyed the time and views.
