Visit the world famous gardens of Villandry and the garden festival at Chaumont sur Loire
A tour that takes in the potager gardens of Villandry, and the garden festival at Chaumont sur Loire.
We will begin by heading for the world famous gardens of the Chateau of Villandry, family owned and run, and a benchmark for potager gardens. From there we will take the autoroute as a means of crossing quickly to our lunch point, a relais style workers restaurant serving generous traditional food. We will likely be the only English speakers in the restaurant.
The afternoon will begin in the magnificent park of the Chateau of Chaumont sur Loire. Every year the chateau hosts a 6 month themed garden festival. Garden designers are invited to create small gardens that are relevant to modern home gardeners. As well as the often very clever garden plots there is an extensive landscaped park sprinkled with works of art.
At the end of the day we visit a Vouvray winery based in 1000 year old caves overlooking the Loire, where we will have a tour of the facility followed by a wine and local speciality foods paired tasting.
