The coastal town of Hermanus lies between the fynbos-covered mountains and the waves of the Atlantic - and is said to be the world's best land based whale watching spot (best from August - November). It forms the centre of the Cape Whale Route and is surrounded by a conservation area.
Hermanus is an easy 90 minute drive from Cape Town centre. Departing from Cape Town, we drive along one of the most spectacular coastal roads in South Africa.
Once we arrive in Hermanus, you will have ample time to explore the Cliff Path Nature area for the best shore based whale watching experience. Here one can watch whales spy-hopping, breaching and lob-tailing. You can also pre-arrange a whale watching boat trip.
Departing for Cape Town, you have an option of visiting the Hermanus Wine Route for a tasting.
We drive back towards Cape Town via the Grabouw area - well known for apple production.
About twenty minutes later we cross Sir Lowry's Pass - sporting unbelievable views.
We reach Cape Town within +-25 minutes. |
