Taal Volcano, in the Philippines, was originally a huge volcano, that towered 18, 000 feet up into the sky. It has been called the smallest active volcano, because it seems small now, but many people don't realize that it is one of the largest volcanoes in the world. It is located about 70-km south of Manila on "volcano island" inside a lake called Taal Lake, or Lake Taal.
It is quite ironic that if you ask yourself. "How many good places near Manila can I go to for recreation?" and you would probably remember less than 5 things. Well, there are the inland resorts in Laguna and Bulacan, or even the church in Antipolo, and the famous Pagsanjan rapids. But the one that usually tops them all is Tagaytay City. Less than two hours ftom Manila, the city offers cool, windy weather and the dramatic view of the Taal Lake and Volcano Island. These have made Tagaytay into a premier tourist destination. It bas also catalyzed the area into a major activity center with numerous mountain resorts and restaurant. |

A 1-hour drive(60km) south of manila. Standard Package Trips from Talisay, including the climb to the crater rim, and back, take about 3 - 4 hours, so its common to time the hike to the volcano in the early morning, to be back at Taal Lake Yacht Club for lunch. The latest we should leave TLYC, would be around 3PM.
It is the norm, to do the trail on horses which are led by their owners. Since water fills the inner crater, Ripley's believe It or Not describes it as a "Lake within an island within a lake"! |
