Discover by car the "Châteaux" on the Dordogne, an optional river tour on an old Barge "Gabarres," or visit the famous caves of "Lascaux" or "Cougnac" with their amazing 20 000 years old cave paintings.
One of the richest regions in France, the Dordogne offers you everything in one spot: beautiful landscapes, houses and castles made out of sun coloured stones, the paintings left by our ancestors in huge caves representing mammoths, horses and bisons. Spending your time here will take you back for sure into history but with the comfort of today.
In Sarlat you will find many nice hotels and the best food on earth, as the region is known for its good quality of life. On the menu: Foie Gras de Canard, Oie. Preserved duck legs. Salads with Walnuts. Walnut cakes. Pommes de terre Sarladaise (potatoes baked in duck grease). Wild mushrooms (cèpes, girolles, morilles...). Wild flower honey. Local Goat cheeses... |

In the morning we'll make a walking tour in the city of Sarlat before taking a ride in the Valley of the "Dordogne" river.
We'll have lunch in a traditional restaurant and continue for an optional visit of one of the most beautiful castles in the Valley: Castelnaud, which hosts the medieval war museum or Milandes where Josephine Baker raised her 12 adopted children.
Or enjoy a nice river tour on a reproduction of an old "Gabarre", used for many centuries to transport goods down the stream to the port of Bordeaux and coming back upstream pulled by men and loaded with salt. Or visit one of the most impressive caves in France with beautiful wall paintings, "Lascaux" or "Cougnac".
At the end of this full day, we'll return to your hotel. |
