Sariska is probably one of the most visited parks in India. The park was, as with many other parks, the hunting reserve of the royal family in the area. In this case, it was the Royal family of Alwar Rajasthan. The reserve was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958 and came under the "Project Tiger" as a Sariska tiger reserve in 1979.
The park covers quite a large area of 800 square kilometers, 480 square kilometers of which form the core area of the national park. It is located among the Aravalli hill ranges in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. |

Pandupole temple Sariska tiger reserve Hanuman temple. Lots of monkeys and Langoors. Millions of visitors come here on Tuesday and Saturday. A natural arch with a stream flowing thru and falling down a cliff of around 150 feet height. There is a pool at the bottom of the fall. Mythology has it that the arch was formed when Bhim, the famed Pandav with tremendous strength, stuck a blow on the mountain side with his mace to make way for his family to pass through, during their 12 year exile. Pandupole has an ancient mythical connotation attached to it. Pandupole was the ancient site where the strongest among the Pandavas, Bhima, vanquished the giant demon Hidimb and in return for this victory earned the hand of his sister, Hidimba. |
