Mark Similey, United States May 1/12 Jose was an amazing guide. He treated my family with the utmost respect and kindness. He even went out of his way to take my daughter to a store that we only vaguely remembered. He helped us locate the store and made sure my daughter's trip was special. He knew everything we asked. His knowledge of the rainforest was complete. This tour was the highlight of the trip. When in Puerto Rico again, we will definitely look up Jose for another splendid day on his island.

Stephen Hill, United States Apr 17/12 We highly recommend This tour. Our tour guide, Jose, was simply GREAT!!. He went out of his way to make sure we knew everything there is to know about this Rain Forest. The forest is breath taking, although we were wishing it would have rained. You can here the birds singing, but not see them from the forest canopy. Another must see is the tower climb. A great view of the island. We hope to go again one day. Sharon Lohoefener, United States Mar 11/12 We used "Tours by Locals" for pick up after a cruise for an activity before our flight home. Our guide we scheduled, Jose, was very prompt in providing all the details when we booked. When he became ill, he set up a great substitute for us named Marcus, whom we liked very much. He found us easily when we arrived at the pier. Our day in the El Yunque Forest was wonderful and a "Must Do" in Puerto Rico! Afterwards we ate together at a great restaurant he recommended. Ann Tuttle, United States Dec 11/11 This was an excellent tour of the rainforest. Our guide was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The only 2 minor things preventing a 5 star rating were that Jose was not our guide and we were not notified in advance of the switch (not a big deal for us because we selected the tour based on the site,not the guide, but still not as advertised) and our guide took and made several phone calls while driving, which is illegal where we come from so a bit disconcerting, though she seemed a good driver. TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: We tried to contact Mrs. Tuttle before hand to advise of the tour guide change but since she was at sea there was not communication back from her. The tour guide provided her with an extended 8 hour tour even visiting extra places that were not on the itinerary, The Guide had believed that she had an enjoyable time. TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: We've spoken to Jose about this tour - the day was challenging as rain had temporarily closed part of the forest and the tour was delayed. This delay necessitated using a substitute guide.

He picked us up at the cruise terminal, checked with the El Yunque National Forest Ranger if the park was open (because of Hurricane Irene) before we headed out on the journey, and took us on a great tour. Jose also followed up with an email to make sure that we were able to leave San Juan safely. We would highly recommend Jose. Kathy Schweitzer, United States Jun 26/11 Jose was an outstanding tour guide. He is local and knows so much about the history and the culture. He promptly picked us up at his hotel, gave us alot of flexibiltiy to "customize" our tour of the national forest then took us luggage and all to the cruise ship which saved us a cab ride. My husband even left his wallet in the back seaet of the car, we called Jose and he brought it right back to us at the ships dock. I would highly reccommend Jose. There were 6 in our group and we had a great time!

Caroline Esbiornson, United States Apr 7/11 Jose was terrific! He was on time, very professional and knowledgeable. AND, he was fun and funny! I think my favorite part of the day was when he took the eight of us to a local sugarcane juice bar, shared tacos with us from a local roadside taco stand, and passed out mangoes the owner of the juice bar cut down from the tree in his yard. We hung out with the locals who showed up and chatted while drinking and eating. What a blast we had! We ALL agreed ... we'd definitely tour with him again! Since this was our first trip to Puerto Rico, Jose gave my wife and I a history of the island on the drive to El Yunque. At the park, he helped us to decide the hikes to take, based on our energy level. Jose made sure we saw the things we wanted to see at El Yunque - and helped us find a couple things we would never have found on our own. Thank you, Jose. Daniel Johnson, United States Jan 3/11 Jose was very knowledgeable!! His time was our time, at no point did we feel rushed as all like with a typical tour. He knew the local places. Only problem was he spent to much time talking on the phone on the way to and from the rain forest. TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE: Dear Mr. Johnson, Thank you for taking time to fill out a review of my tour.
