Anthony Downes, Australia Jan 10/13 Disappointing tour. Pretty much just drove us out to the places and back. Could have used our own van for the day and saved a lot of money. Wouldn't recommend based on our experience. We did 5 other tours with 'tours by locals' during our family trip which were all very good to excellent, this tour was very disappointing. I took them exactly where they wanted to go giving always a lot of information on our stops I also delivered about an extra hour of tour! What else could I have done? It is very hard to accept. I've done the same itinerary many times and my customers have always been very happy.Massimo TOURSBYLOCALS RESPONSE: We've spoken to the Downes' about this tour. They were very happy with Massimo's friendliness and driving, but expected him to accompany them in the places they visited, rather than just driving them. As Massimo is a 'driver/guide' we've asked him to make it clear the commentary he is able to offer.

Antony E., Australia Jan 6/13 I believe that six stars would be appropriate for Massimo. He is an ambassador for Florence tourism. We had the pleasure of spending two days with him and nothing was a problem. He went above and beyond what we expected and would recommend him to anybody considering a private tour in and around Florence. We visited Florence last year as part of a larger group tour and were underwhelmed. Massimo has ignited a passion in us for the region and we will contact him again when we return in the future. Massimo is a knowledgeable + enjoyable guide and we would highly recommend his tour. He also recommended an excellent restaurant in Siena and we had one of our best Italian meals there. Allen Pancoast, United States Oct 13/12 Massimo was excellent. We have had many tour guides over the years, and Massimo was the best ever. His English is supurb. He has excellent knowledge and local contacts. He would quickly adjust a suggested agenda to meet our desires as we spent the day. We saw all the things we wanted to, plus others that Massimo suggested, giving us a true flavor of Tuscany. Last minute quality substitute guide due to illness said a lot for integrity of Tours by Locals. You will not be disappointed! Because of severe parking restrictions in many areas we visited, he had to let us out to tour on our own while keeping the car in motion. He always made sure that we were well-informed before we were set loose at a site, so we were fully able to appreciate what we were seeing. He built in a bit of downtime, too, which we really appreciated in the end - we were less exhausted than we expected. I'd tour again with him, any time! Leslie Iannace, United States May 10/12 Due to a cold, Massimo was unable to be our guide, so Daniel Mori took his place and did a fabulous job. He took us to a winery in Tuscany that was rich with history. Florence, his home town, was amazing! The food was to die for. I had gnocchi that was nothing like I ever had, and I'm of Italian descent. We highly recommend Daniel for your next tour. Ram Ramalingam, United States Sep 18/11 Massimo was prompt in meeting us @ train station and was flexible in schedule. It started to rain in Pisa so we decided to take a detour to Lucca and explored the town of Lucca which was most relaxing. He was very knowledgeable in local way of life other than just monuments and attractions. My wife had lot of conversations about food and way of life with him trading recepies. We would recommend him for any tour in Toscana. Sha-Rin Low, Singapore Jul 16/11 Massimo was flexible and patient throughout my email communications. We were an extended family of 11 of 3 generations - grandparents right down to 5 kids aged 4-13. On the day of our tour, my mother-in-law (74 yrs) had a very swollen leg and could not walk well. Massimo was very patient and did whatever he could to make her comfortable. When we reached the towns we were touring (Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa), his car was licensed to take us right into the attractions. That was perfect for her condition. He was understanding at our late arrival but quickly made our group clear of time restrictions and was accommodating to our needs. Florence/Pisa were more beautiful that we expected and Massimo's insights were the frosting on the cake. We were 14 "boricuas" (native word for people from Puerto Rico) and its very hard to please everyone but he definitely got good compliments from all of us. Michael Eagleston, United States Jun 4/11 Massimo was so much fun! He knows the area so well, and was a wealth of information. The cooking class for my daughter and myself was top-notch. It was in a lovely 800 year old farmhouse that was nestled in a valley--with 360 degree views of Tuscan wine and olive vineyards. Paradise on earth. While we cooked, he took the guys on a scenic tour of little towns and wineries--and lunch. We joined them for the afternoon of wineries. The day was yummy!
