One of the "must-sees" for tourists coming to see St. Petersburg is Catherine Palace in the suburban town of Pushkin, the former Tsar's Village or Tsarskoye Selo as we call it in Russian. The palace itself is a masterpiece of baroque architecture, where you can feel the imperial scale and see more gold than you can imagine. Designed for Empress Elizabeth it was later the favorite residence of Catherine the Great. Catherine gardens with elegant pavillions and flower beds are an appropriate surrounding of the palace.
Pavlovsk (which is in 10 minutes drive)was presented by Catherine the Great to her son Paul and became the summer residence of his family. Very elegant and stylish it was designed in classical style. Two different residences give a great chance to see two different fashions and to compare.
We'll meet at the lobby of your hotel and a comfortable car/mini van will take us to the town of Pushkin. It usually takes about one hour to get there but depends on the traffic. On the way I'll tell you about the things we pass by, the history of Tsar's Village estate and the Romanovs.
In the palace we'll spend about 1. 5 hours. We'll see the Amber room and other ornate interiors. Then we'll have a stroll in the park.
Lunch in a nice restaurant or a quick snack - up to you.
Ten minutes drive and we are in the town of Pavlovsk, where we'll see very stylish Pavlovsk Palace. It is less crowded but not less beautiful and very different from Catherine palace.
After the tour we'll take you back to the hotel or any other place in the city.
