We'll pick you up at your hotel either in Guatemala City or Antigua, recommended time: 8:30 AM. Then we'll travel to the national park headquarters, from where our hike begins.
First we'll hike through the normal route to the main central plateau, where the old lava fields were covered by volcanic sand and now we can find some "hot spots" with steam coming out from them.
Then we move to the western face of the volcano to a small hill named "Cerro Chino", from where you have an outstanding sight of the three volcanoes around Antigua (Agua, Fuego & Acatenango).
From here we can either hike back through the same route or take a shortcut which will take us to another entrance of to the park, all the way down on the northwestern side of the volcano.
We can either pack something to eat lunch during the hike, or eat something on our way back to Guatemala City or Antigua. |
