A walking tour of the Centro Histórico of Mexico City is indispensable to an understanding of Mexico's rich history and culture.
We will design our walk according to your interests, but I would suggest that we start at the Alameda Park, stroll to the Palace of Fine Arts (Palacio de Bellas Artes), continue along Madero Street to the House of Tiles (Casa de los Azulejos), the Palace of Iturbide, and on to the main plaza (el zócalo), where the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace (with the Diego Rivera murals) face two sides of the plaza. We will continue to the Church of Santo Domingo and finally if you are ready for a refreshment, we will head to Las Sirenas and enjoy a cocktail and the view from its terrace overlooking the Cathedral and the main plaza. |

Starting point, "Sueño de una tarde de domingo en la alameda" Diego Rivera's mural; from there the Franz Mayer Museum (excellent collection of silver, "biombos" and "enconchados"); the Fine Arts palace; Madero Street and its main buildings; Azulejos; Iturbide; La Profesa (our only truly Roman church); Casino Español; the Main square with the Cathedral and the National Palace; Church of la Enseñanza (late baroque, my favorite); Santo Domingo Church and its square, the best preserved viceroyal square in town; and last but not least the story of el zorro.
There are plenty of places where to stop for a cup of coffe if you wish. |
