The largest of all natural freshwater lake in Malaysia, Lake Bera is also one of the country's few areas declared (1994) as a Ramsar site (Wetlands of International Importance). Covering an area of roughly 35km and 20km, the lake is home to diverse animal and plant life with a unique landscape that is unlike any other.
Join me as we explore this beautiful lake and mingle with the indigenous Semelais who have made the lake and its surrounding areas home for over 600 years. Experience living in traditional jungle hut, explore the lake on boat rides and witness the 'burning tree' that has been in practice for generations. Semelais, known for their soft spoken yet humorous manners are also great cooks, serving some of the best 'lake' food with traditional recipes. Other activities include basket weaving, herb garden walk, traditional musical instruments, fire pistons & other crafts demo, jungle crafts and village tours. |
