It starts from the northern part of Old town(former city of Krakow) through the medieval Barbican Castle , Krakow's triumphal gate - Florian's Gate, medieval fortifications with defensive towers, main market square - with St. Mary's Church, the Cloth Hall monumental building in the middle of the main square, the Old University District - Krakow's "Latin District", Bishops' Palace, Franciscan Church, the famous Kanonicza street and the Wawel Hill-the Residence of Polish Kings, the Krakow's Royal Cathedral Church
Wieliczka Salt Mine is located about 12 km from the centre of Krakow. That is the oldest Salt Mine in Europe still functioning since the medieval times. In 1978 it was entered on the UNESCO's first World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. Tourists visiting the mine walk down 360 steps into the salt mine, The tourist route is a system of mine excavations from 64 to 135 meters below ground level. |
