This tour begins at the historical center of Rio de Janeiro. Visit Confeitaria Colombo (try the real coffee Brazil), Tiradentes Square, Praça XV including the Imperial Palace (the first residence of the Portuguese royal family) samples of the Brazilian colonial architecture up to the 18th century, the statue of General Osório, Mestre Valentim's Fountain and through the Teles Arch, reach the cobble-stoned Travessa do Comercio and the former residence of Carmen Miranda, the Church of Our Lady of the Merchants, the Post Office Cultural Center, France-Brazil House, Bank of Brasil Cultural Center and Candelaria Church. At this point, the tour continues towards the Church of St. Benedict, built by the Benedictine Order in the seventeenth century. Its magnificent gold-plated decorated interior reflects the apogee of Brazilian baroque. Next we visit Sta. Teresa, a traditional district with a mild climate and big houses from the beginning of the century, built mainly by English railroad managers. |
