Just minutes south of Nashville, Franklin is often cited as one of the most beautiful downtowns in the South. For years visitors have come for the charm, often unaware of the rich past that lies just beneath the town's quaint Victorian surface. On our tour we'll visit a church for freedmen, the antebellum courthouse and St. Paul's and its treasure in stained glass. We'll talk about some of Franklin's most interesting people and their amazing stories: an entrepreneurial slave; a most unlikely spy, and one of the original Tennessee Volunteers. We'll have access to several historic buildings, including two on the campus of Franklin's O'More College of Design. All on a leisurely three-hour stroll along tree-lined streets that frame a feast for the eyes. |

| Our tour starts at the earliest Greek Revival structure in Tennessee. From there, we'll explore Franklin's most historic street (2nd Avenue) and visit O'More College of Design, where we'll view the garden and go inside two historic houses on the campus. Returning to Main Street, we'll see the town square and the Confederate monument and head toward Sallie Carter's house. Returning to Main Street we'll follow it 5 blocks through the commercial area toward historic Hincheyville, Franklin's first subdivision. We'll return to Main Street and end on 4th Avenue where an outstanding selection of restaurants awaits. |
