Come and enjoy hiking on Helgafell, the sacred town mountain of Hafnarfjörður. We start the hiking at the water spring of town, walk for 15-20 minutes through moon-like landscape all the way to the mountain and then we start hiking up the mountain. On top of the mountain we walk around, visit a hole in the mountain and sign the guest book before we head down again. Mt Helgafell is situated in the most active area in Iceland where America and Europe drift apart.
This tour suits people of all ages, families, individuals or groups of all sizes. You don't need any knowledge or experience in hiking to be able to partake in this tour. Pick-up and certificate included in the tour price. |

| We pick you up at your hotel at around 9.30am or at other times if you want to. We drive for 20-30 minutes to the mountain, park the car, get some nice natural water and then we hike over the lava to the mountain. It takes us 15-25 minutes to get to the mountain and then we start hiking up the mountain. We take breaks as needed on the way and listen to stories and information from the guide. At the top we have some refreshments and write our names in the guest book before we head down again. |

| Meet up location: We pick you up at your hotel. |

| End location: We return you to your hotel or to the centre of town Hafnarfjörður. From there it is very easy (takes only 10-15 minutes) to take a bus or a taxi to Reykjavik. |

| If the weather is bad or difficult conditions on the mountain then the tour can take between 3 and 4 hours. |

My guide knew exactly what to do. We stopped a few times as she told us about the landscape below, and the plants and trees in the area. She regaled us with stories of the early settlers in the area, of the hidden people, and many other tidbits that made the hike amusing.
