Now that Lonely Planet has named Ghent one of the Top 10 Cities to visit in 2011, it might not remain Belgium's most overlooked city for long. Usually overshadowed by Brussels, Bruges and Antwerp, Ghent rewards the adventurous visitor with some of the most beautiful and memorable sights in Europe.
This 2-hour walking tour will take you by some of the highlights of the city center, including the impressive Belfort or bell tower and Gravensteen Castle. We'll stroll over stone bridges, enjoying views of the two rivers that run through the city, and through several open plazas lined with historic buildings.
We'll end the tour at St Bavo's Cathedral, where you'll have the opporunity to view Van Eyck's masterpiece, the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. Along the way, I'll point out shops and cafés that you may want to visit on your own after the tour. |
