Few areas in Africa can be described as true wilderness. But the country of the Lower Omo Valley would seem fully to qualify for that definition. It is a lost world enclosed by the Abyssinian mountains. This is an area of harmonious cultural diversity hidden in a beautiful natural treasure. Forgotten by history, as yet inadequately charted by geographers, the lower Omo valley forms the approximate center of this remote zone. Here, side by side a number of small bands of pastoralists and farmers co-exist with groups of hunter-gatherers in a state of wild. The Borena are people of the morning. They are the first born near to Waq( sky God). The Konso are people of wood and stone. The Hamar are people of Bull Jumping, an initiation for boys to pass in to adulthood. The Dorze are master of weaving. The Karo are master of body painting and scarification. Colourful local markets of the area are breath taking. Lake Chamo has some of the biggest crocodiles and hippos. Don't forget your camera!
