The Cheetah Centre was established in 1971, initially as a cheetah breeding project and the Centre has during the past 40 years bred over 800 cheetah cubs. Various conservation projects have been initiated since its inception which also inlcudes a successful African wild dog breeding programme.
The centre offers hope to many of our endangered species, and a visit here raises funds for the conservation effort, educates and offers a wonderful opportunity to see these animals and birds up close. Species include cheetah; King cheetah, a colour variant which was bred here for the first time; Caracal; African Wild Dog; Brown Hyena; African Wild Cat and Cape Vulture.
The founder of the Cente, Ann van Dyk, has devoted her life to condervation, and pioneered the breeding of these species in captivity. Her book on the cheetah project is available at the centre.
PLEASE NOTE: The standard tours do NOT CATER FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6. There are shorter family tours for young children. Please enquire. |

Cheetah Run plus 3hr tour - This takes place at 08h00 on Tue, Thur, Sat & Sun. We would have to leave Johannesburg area by 06h30 at the latest. NO CHILDREN 6 & UNDER.
3hr tour - This takes place at 08h00 on Mon, Wed & Fri, and at 13h30 every day of the week. NO CHILDREN 6 & UNDER.
Family Tour - Only for families with children under 6 - 2hr tour every day at 09h30 and 14h30.
Given the travel time of 1h30min to get to de Wildt from Johannesburg, what we see and do along the way will depend on which tour time we go to, and how long we spend at the Centre.
We can stop in Pretoria City either on the way back or on the way there. We can visit Kruger House Museum, Church Square, the Union Buildings, City Hall and the Natural History Museum. |

Tour times are set, and the normal tour of the centre lasts 3 hours. The family tour is shorter, lasting 2 hours, but is restricted to families with small children. |
