In Saqqara (c. 10 miles south of Giza) is situated the Step Pyramid (the oldest structure of stone ever constructed, c. 2700 B. C. ) along with so many other pyramids and tombs.
South of Saqqara is Memphis (the oldest capital of egypt, c. 3200 B. C), nothing remains of ancient Memphis but a small museum that houses the largest sphinx of alabaster (c, 80 tons) along with a colossal statue of king Rammses II(c. 1200 B. C. ) and other monuments.
on the plateau of Giza one can see the famous Great pyramid of Cheops (2500 B. C. ), the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, along with the Pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus. Down the plateau lies the Great Sphinx!
he Egyptian Museum in Cairo houses the biggest collection of ancient Egyptian monuments (more than 120, 000 objects), the famous Royal Mummies Room, and the treasures of King Tutankamun.
