Egypt is not just the Pyramids. Your visit to Egypt is never complete unless you see Alexandria, the most attractive city in the entire country. It's little wonder it's called the "Pearl of the Mediterranean".
Having been founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC, it became the world's centre of learning and scholarship. It also witnessed the establishment of the Library "bibliotheca Alexandrina" which housed tons of scrolls of papyrus speaking about the world heritage in the form of sciences, literature and religions.
Modern Alexandria is as attractive as the ancient city. Lots of British, French, Italians and Greeks used to live here. It's not a coincidence it has beautiful European architecture. It has also become Egypt's largest port receiving a lot of trade from Europe and the US.
Every body was here : St. Mark, Julius Caesar, Antony, Cleopatra, Octavius, Napoleon, Nelson, Montgomery, Churchil and many others. |
