Wickenburg will give you a peek into Arizona's past. We will explore a nature preserve where the Hassayampa river (its more like small and enchanting creek) actually flows above ground. We'll visit the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, the Vulture Gold Mine, view vast desert and mountain vistas, maybe take a hike to the top of Vulture Peak. It all depends on your interests and capabilities. There is a wonderful Shrine to St. Joseph about 1/2 hour northwest of town and about 1500 feet higher. Its always cooler up there in Yarnell. If you like good old fashioned Mexican Food, there a good restaurant right in the center of Wickenburg. If we have time on the way back we will take the gravel road to Castle Hot Springs, a defunct resort/SPA that once catered to the likes of Teddy Roosevelt and other wealthy and powerful Easterners. |

| After a short ride through the Sonoran Desert outside of Phoenix, we will visit the Hassayampa River Preserve. Admission is free, however donations to for the upkeep and operation of the preserve are appreciated. There are several trails including the riparian area along the stream and mesquite forest. There is usually a hawk or turkey buzzard soaring high above. Next we will take a short ride to the center of Wickenburg to visit the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. The museum will take you back to the early days of Wickenburg. There is also of fine gallery of western art. We pause for lunch at one of several local restaurants. There are a couple of good Mexican restaurants and good old American fare depending on your tastes. After lunch we will visit the Vulture Mine or take a ride up to Yarnell to the Shrine of St. Joseph. Its a quiet restful place set among the rocks and oak trees. We will take a leisurely ride back down the mountain and back to Phoenix to your lodgings |
