A memorable 4 hour (time is adjustable) shore excursion from a cruise ship, or starting at a downtown hotel. We'll stroll along the beautiful city waterfront, full of history and modern architecture, alive with boats and people. We'll venture into the maze of medieval streets, see the musts of the city and some of its charming hidden corners. Tell me your preferences and we'll put an emphasis on that. There is so much to choose from that you will want to come back.
The weather: Well, every other day of the year it does NOT rain AT ALL - and Copenhagen is just beautiful. Showers? That's what we call "authenticity".
If your starting point is at a distance from downtown, we'll use the excellent public transportation system.
Order of visit according to starting point, 4-hour tour. From your ship or hotel we'll pass by: Citadel, waterfront promenade, Amalienborg Royal Palace (Queen's winter residence); baroque city and Frederiks Church; King Christian IV renaissance buildings like round tower, Holmen's church, stock exchange and his old war harbor; old streets, picturesque squares and colored facades of inner city as well as modern architecture on the waterfront, like the Black Diamond (National Library), National Theater and the splendid new Opera House. Not to forget the parliament complex. We'll locate good shopping and restaurant neighborhoods. And more if time permits. (Copenhagen has 2 different cruise piers, one right on the harbor promenade, the other a mile further out. A public bus will take us downtown in about 15 minutes) Concerning Museum visits: 1) We must stick to official opening hours 2) There will be an entrance fee 3) It takes time. But I'm sure you'll find it rewarding. Let's mail about optional details.
Where and When:
Meet up location: Anywhere you like as long as it is unambiguously agreed. Hotel, cruise ship, airport, downtown railway station. Cruise ships: There are two piers. Langeliniekaj is walking distance from the statue of The Little Mermaid and downtown, but not always possible to drop baggage in advance. At the other pier there normally is a baggage drop (please check with your agency), but an extra mile to walk. Cabs are scarce. Buses run on weekdays only. Railway station (Københavns Hovedbanegard): Good place to meet and start a tour. It's easily accessible directly from the airport terminal(see below). We meet at the McDonald's in the central hall (easy to find) and I help you to the luggage storage.
Airport: A 13 minutes train ride (about 7 trains per hour) will take us right from the terminal to the Railway station where you can store luggage. It's right downtown. I bring the tickets. This could be a very practical solution.
End location: Let's agree on an appropriate parting place in the city, depending on your plans for the day.
Duration: 4 hours
Minimum duration 3 hrs. Maximum: Until your feet are sore. Price will vary accordingly.
Restrictions:
As I don't have a professional driver's licence I can't drive during tours. I focus on walking tours and public transportation.
The guide (me) + 1 trip in public transportation. See "What's extra" for optional expenses.
What's Extra:
Optional: coffee break. Optional: Entrance fee to the Round Tower. The effort is rewarded by a magnificent view. Optional: Extra public transportation (or Taxi) if needed or desired.
Details:
Tour #: 7401
Tour Type: Shore Excursion, Hiking & Walking, City
Transportation Method: Leisurly walking on even terrain in the city. Depending on individual agreements we can take public transportation (excellent) or taxicab at customer's expense.
Relatively handicap friendly, meaning that there will be a number of curbs in the city streets. The distance and number of places to visit may have to be limited due to slower progress. But the tour can be be adapted to the use of a wheelchair.
Kid Friendly: Yes. Well, depends on their age and interest. I'll try to talk directly to them. They might enjoy a harbor-ferry ride and the Round Tower. I suggest a relatively short version of the tour with children around.
