The Carmanah Valley is a wild and pristine valley in a remote part of Vancouver Island that was saved from logging in the last century. You will travel over logging roads from the mill town of Port Alberni through rainforest, mountains and clearcuts until you arrive at this very special place. It's a long day because of all the driving. But you will marvel at the huge trees, the dense forest, the abundance of moss and the sheer antiquity of the forest. Children imagine fairies living in it.
7:30 AM. I will meet and greet you early, because it is a long day. From here we will drive through the working rain-forests of Vancouver Island where we will likely see logging trucks, and other working vehicle along the way, and lots of mountain scenery. 10:00 AM We should arrive at this remote valley. We will hike down into the valley-bottom along well-groomed paths. Much of the path is board-walked, but as we proceed up the valley the trail deteriorates a bit. 12:00 Lunch on a gravel bar on the Carmanah River. 2:00 we arrive back at the vehicle for the return trip. 5:00 You arrive back at your hotel.

In the heat of the summer, the forest might be closed due to the risk of forest fires. There is also a small possibility that the road could be closed due to road work. Generally they only have delays if they are working on the road.
In addition to my company as guide and driver, I will supply a filling picnic lunch, and walking sticks if necessary. Please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions. Although it generally isn't very buggy, I have insect repellent if you need it.
What's Extra:
You will need a good raincoat and preferably, rain pants as well. You feet could get wet if it is raining, so bring a change of footwear for your comfort on the trip back.
