The Liwu river cut a narrow, steep and hundreds of meters high marble gorge through Taiwan's Central mountain range since this subtropical island started rising from the sea four million years ago.
On this two day tour to the East coast you will see popular sights along the way and experience the best parts of the National Park and the Hualien area. The ride from and to Taipei through the 13 kilometer long Snow tunnel offers a unique view of the high mountain ranges, rugged coast, valleys, plains and rivers.
I will help you plan and organize this 'free and easy' format unguided and overnight tour by private van with Mandarin speaking driver. Your hotel choices ? Overnight in the park for peace and quiet, or stay in nearby Hualien where night markets invite you to eat and shop.
Please keep in mind Taroko weekends are very busy and require lead time for booking.
Sections of the park may be closed at times due to the forces of nature or weather. Safety helmets are mandatory during walks in Taroko. |

Driving on both days offers you a chance to stop and see places you'd miss taking a plane or train.
On the first day you will be driven in an air conditioned van from Taipei through the Snow tunnel or by coastal road to the Yilan plain. Once you reach the Cingsui Cliffs on the coast, continue westbound on the Cross Central Highway to selected stops in Taroko National Park. If you like, you can take one or more of the hikes recommended by the driver on the route.
Your choice of accommodation on your own account may range from bed & breakfast to hotels in Hualien, Taroko (or Cingjin on request). The National Park is a quiet zone, the city of Hualien provides more choice for evening and next day activities.
On the second day you'll continue your tour and return to Taipei via the Snow tunnel route or longer coastal road if feasible. |
