We see and experience by walking Suomenlinna (the fortress of the Finns), a huge UNESCO-world heritage site and inheritance object. It gives you a good view of European history with the last remnants of Swedish military power - a former super power in Europe.
A lot to see! |

The site is situated outside Helsinki downtown, only 15 minutes by ferry from the Market Place. Five islands on 80 hectars with kilometres of rock walls, visited by over 700 000 tourists/year. Today also a district of the city with about 900 inhabitants of all kind of people - many artists, military, boat people, etc. A lot of action makes your time go by fast, 25 minutes of audio-visual film info, museums, tunnels, many different happenings and a wonderful sea archipelago which invites you for a swim in the brackish water of the Baltic Sea.
Estonia, with the 1000 year old capital Tallinn, is not far away. The huge ships going morning and evening to Sweden's capital Stockholm passes only a few meters away from the rock walls, in a deepened, blasted waterway.
We suggest a minimum of 3 hrs. |
