As we start our tour on Nevskii and continue our walk along the Fontanka river to the river Neva. You'll be able to find out the history of the first palaces that appeared here when it was still the city border and was populated by prominent members of the czar's family and their closest associates. You'll also be able to learn the history of successful plotters, who came to power to rule the whole of Russia, many of whom were women who had to use their charms to get the might of Royal "praetorian" guards on their side. You'll see the first wooden house, which was built by Peter I in three days and find out about this carpenter-Tsar, who was proclaimed the first Russian Emperor. He was satisfied by his hut and did not want to build a palace for himself, yet built a city, which was called the "Third Rome" like emperor Constantine in the wilderness. Peter chose his "baby" St. Petersburg over his own son, whom he tortured and killed in the Peter and Paul fortress for his desire to move back to Moscow. |
