Philadelphia's Greatest Neighborhood--Then and Now |

The Avenue of the Arts and Rittenhouse Square |

tour unrated (all ratings for this guide)

From City Hall we walk south on the "Old Wall Street"--Now the Avenue of the Arts. I will show you fine 19th and 20th C. buildings, like the Second Empire Union League and the 1857 Academy of Music. Past new theaters and inside the breathtaking Kimmel Center, present home of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Then we'll turn and walk along Walnut Street, full of high-end stores, boutiques, and restaurants. We will arrive at the most beautiful and affluent square in town, Rittenhouse Square. As you decide, we can explore west to great 19th C. religious buildings, blocks of gorgeous brownstone mansions, little-known small streets and squares, and perhaps alight at an Italian fresh fruit and yogurt bar or a coffee house or a pub. |
