| The old town centre of Ravenna offers many traces of its ancient past, thanks to the very good preservation of its early Christian and Byzantine monuments. I suggest a half-day guided tour (to a maximum of 3 hours in the morning or in the afternoon) which will enable you to fully appreciate the splendours of our art and history. The visit will include the Gothic Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the splendid Byzantine church of San Vitale, the most ancient Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and the Orthodox Baptistery located nearby the town cathedral. All these marvels can be seen simply by taking a stroll through the centre of Ravenna. During our walk in the pedestrian area you will have a chance to step into a mosaic workshop, have a pause for coffee in the main square and visit the Tomb of Dante Alighieri, Italy's most distinguished poet, who died here in 1321. |

The cost of admission ticket to the monuments is 8,50 euros. From March 1st till June 15th, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia is NOT included in the Euro 8,50 ticket. Additional entrance fee of Euro 2,00. Between Nov. and Feb. sites close at 5 p.m.
The cost of transport. Information for my cruise guests: I suggest You to ask at the help desk of your ship if the shuttle bus service between the pier of Porto Corsini and Ravenna center is available. Usually this service is offered by the ship, but it's better to ask about it before. If You prefer the private taxi, this service costs around 25 € one way. |
