Built on a promontory of the Dangrek Range, 625m above the sea level, PRASAT PREAH VIHEAR(the temple of the sacred mountain) as it is locally known represents a unique example of the integration of a temple complex with the natural landscape.
Preah Vihear, an angkorain monument, is a testimony of great architectural masterpiece of Khmer engineering which offers an unparallel symbiosis of civil engineering and landscaping. Built in 9th century, stands as a unique architectural composition of master builders of Angkor Empire judging from its conception. Execution and by its elaborate Gopuras and massive monumental staircases. Famously recognized as a religious headquarter, a pilgrim has to ascend the cliff of Preah Vihear through connected spiritual paths to worship Shiva as the lord of peak(Shikharesvara): an ancient view which compare this temple as Kailasha and the Dongrek range as the Himalaya of Angkor. while preah vihear represents a court of shiva. |
