This full-day tour will show you highlights of Limburg, a region rich in history and architectural treasures. We'll start the day in Tongeren, the oldest city in Belgium, and see some of the remains of the Roman town. You'll also get a private tour of the Gallo-Roman Museum, named the best museum in Europe in 2011, where you can learn more about the earliest Belgians.
From there, we'll head to Alden-Biesen, a beautiful complex that was once the local headquarters of the Knights of the Teutonic Order and currently a cultural center for the Flemish community. We'll stroll the grounds, see the palace and formal gardens, and stop for a bite in the former guesthouse, now a restaurant.
Next we'll visit the Bokrijk, an outdoor museum that incorporates historic buildings from all over Belgium. Costumed interpreters inhabit the structures and livestock complete the picture of everyday life in Belgium in bygone times. We'll finish our visit in one of the historic pubs, where you can taste a local brew. |

| The tour starts in Tongeren, where we will take a short walking tour and visit the Gallo-Roman Museum. Then we travel by car to Alden-Biesen, about 10 km away. There we'll visit the seventeenth-century headquarters of the Knights of the Teutonic Order, with its beautiful palace and gardens. We'll have lunch at the former guesthouse, now a restaurant. From there we'll go to the Bokrijk, another 20 km away, an open-air museum with historic buildings from all over Belgium. We'll finish at one of the cafés in the Bokrijk with a glass of Belgian beer. |
