Overview of your Dover tour

Leeds Castle, Kent looks just like a castle should, with turrets, towers & battlements all surrounded by water & set in beautiful countryside - "The Loveliest Castle in the World". The earliest parts of the castle were built in stone soon after the Norman Conquest of 1066 & became a Crown property cherished by a succession of English queens. Later the castle was owned by three famous families, the St Legers, the Culpeper family who owned more than 5 million acres of Virginia, USA, and the Fairfaxes. Finally in 1926 it was bought by the Hon Mrs Wilson Filmer a wealthy Anglo-American heiress. On her death in 1974 Lady Baillie left the castle to a charitable trust set up to maintain the property as a 'living castle' for all visitors worldwide to enjoy. The interior reflects the rich and varied life of the building and includes the Norman, medieval Queens Rooms, The Fountain Court, Henry VIII Banqueting Hall, the Chapel established by Edward I & then through to the twentieth century.

Depending on how long you wish your tour to be, there may be time to stop in at a few local medieval churches, towns or villages.
