Enjoy a game viewing drive through rolling grassland hills near the town of Heidelberg in the Eastern part of Gauteng Province. Portions of 65 farms form this 13377ha Nature Reserve of typical High veld grassland: rock formations, grassy plains, ridges and dramatic kloofs with an altitude between 1545 and 1917m above sea level. This reserves lies in the Magaliesberg Mountain range and is named after an endemic plant: Protea Caffra (Transvaal Suikerbos in Afrikaans). The difference in landscape is because two different geological systems formed millions of years ago, with basalt and sandstone as the prominent rock formations. With a 60km long motor vehicle tourist route, you can enjoy spectacular views of this reserve, its animals, birds and plants. Typical grassland animals such as Black Wildebeest, Eland, Springbok, Porcupine, Cape Fox, birds like Secretary, White Bellied Korhaan, Francolins, Yellow Canary, to name but a few, can be spotted. Maybe a Cheetah? Stop for a picnic lunch at Holhoek picnic site. |

From pre-arranged pick-up point we drive in an eastern direction towards the town of Heidelberg. At the park office we will have a cofee/tea break, visit the information centre and toilets. Then we proceed driving around the reserve on the tourist vehicle route, observing animals and birds in their natural environment, living and doing like they supposed to do. Please adhere to the rules of the reserve and enjoy maximum rewarding sightings. Don't forget to admire the plants and flowers as well! When it is time for lunch, we will stop at the Holhoek picnic site for a relaxing picnic lunch. There after we will do the second half of the tourist route, making our way towards the gate, where we will have a toilet stop before driving in a western direction towards pre-aranged drop-off point.
The picnic lunch will always be customed made for every tour group, depending on dietry requisitions and the season (winter or summer).
