We will depart from Jericoacoara along the beach to Mangue Seco, we will stop where the locals offer a short boat trip along the banks of the Gurju River and a glimpse at the Cavalhos Marinhos (sea horses). Further along we cross the Guriú River by raft, and then continue on through a surreal Mangrove forest to Old Tatajuba, a tiny village which had been completely covered by the shifting dunes. We'll cross over some of the highest dunes surrounded by spectacular views in every direction before arriving at Lagoa da Torta and New Tatajuba, which appears in the distance like an oasis in the desert. The banks of the lake are lined with restaurants serving fresh fish, shrimp, and lobster in the traditional cooking style. There are wooden tables and chairs in the water with over-hanging umbrellas and hammocks which hang just above the water where you can catch an after-lunch snooze before heading back to Jericoacoara. The trip ends at the foot of the village's main dune just in time for the famous sunset. |
