In this tour we shall go out of the Rio de janeiro city limites, and get to know the roots of Rio de Janeiro state! The best option, in my opinion, is Petropolis, the Imperial City. That is the best place to learn about Rio's history and its ancient culture, coming from Europe with spanish, portuguese, german and Italians colons. This is the place where it all started ;-)

The city of Petropolis is located 60 km away from Rio and it's called the Imperial City since the Emperor Pedro II, enchanted by its fresh climate and beauty, bought a large property in 1830. Settled by the Germans, Petropolis keeps the memory of Brazilian history with its buildings and charming streets.
This tour starts with the visit to the Imperial Museum which has been the summer residence of the emperor D. Pedro II and that keeps furniture and objects such as the crown of gold, pearls and diamonds used by D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II. The tour will continue on the Gothic Cathedral where Princess Isabel was buried along with the tombstones of D. Pedro II and his wife and then the Crystal Palace, built in France and mounted in Brazil, destined to shelter exhibitions and great parties promoted by Princess Isabel.
