This tour of Chiang Rai gets off the tourist trail and explores the more authentic parts of the province. Taking you from Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao, Doi Angkhang, Fang, Thaton, Mae Salong, Mae Sai and the Golden Triangle. You will pass stunning mountain vistas along the way, visit the borders of Laos and Myanmar see a variety of hill tribes (Palong,Lahu,Lisu,Akha,Hmong), sample local cuisine and learn about the local culture and way of life here |

Day 1
• Pick up from Chiang Mai for optional activities- elephant riding, bamboo rafting, orchid+butterfly farm, tiger kingdom
• Onto Doi Angkhang a misty mountain hill tribe settlement in a remote mountain range that borders Myanmar and home to colourful hill tribes such as the Palong, Lahu, Lisu, Hmong
Day 2
• Early morning start to watch the sunrise behind the mountains, visit the hill tribe villages, schools, learn about how they live, culture and customs
• Visit viewpoint of the Thai-Myanmar border and the King's Royal Agricultural Centre
• In Thaton visit local markets, a hilltop temple and an Akha hill tribe village community based tourism project
• Onto the Chinese village of Mae Salong famous for its tea plantations. For dinner I will take you to try Chinese Yunnanese Cuisine
Day 3
• Head to Mae Sai to see wild monkeys at Wat Tham Pla
•Depart for the Golden Triangle. Optional -longtail boat trip across the Mekhong to Laos
• Head back to Chiang Mai via the famous white temple |
