Take a day excursion by train to one of the cities: Nuremberg, Regensburg or Augsburg to visit their Christmas Markets:
One of the oldest and most famous German Christmas Markets is in Nuremberg. But also Augsburg's Christmas Market with its delightful setting provided by the impressive Townhall is well worth a visit. The Regensburg Christmas Market on the grounds of the Thurn und Taxis castle is unforgettabe: the palace makes a picturesque backdrop for the stalls of candle makers, glass blowers, lantern makers that ply their unusual wares.
No matter which of the Christmas markets you visit, you'll certainly take pleasure in the smells of toasted almonds, handmade toys, decorations and ornaments … and maybe in a hot Gluehwein (mulled wine) that warms you up when it gets really cold.
