We drive the Helshoogte-, Franschoek-, Viljoen's- and Sir Lowry's Passes through breathtaking scenery, and explore the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Grabouw and Gordon's Bay. Enjoy coffee and scones at Hillcrest berry farm, taste wine at the historical Boschendal estate, and you can pick your own strawberries (in season)at Mooiberge.
We leave Cape Town for Stellenbosch, 2nd oldest town in South Africa, and drive Dorp Street, an avenue of oak trees, open water furrows and beautifully preserved street facades. Visit "Oom Samie se Winkel", a restored Victorian-style general store where you can buy anything from curios to preserves.
In Franschoek we visit the Huguenot Monument, the French symbol of liberty. Over the Franschoek mountains to Theewaterskloof Dam we cross Jan Joubert's Bridge, a stone arch bridge and the oldest bridge still in use in South Africa. Through apple orchards to Grabouw, and back to False Bay where we drive through Gordon's Bay and Strand (means "Beach") and take N2 to Cape Town |
